Having sat through training for governors preparing for OFSTED ourselves, we wanted to help schools everywhere to support governors, as they carry out their monitoring role, in a very simple and accessible way. Governors can log in to the app (once invited by school) and contribute toward the whole school monitoring and evidence gathering journey.
It won’t be for every school but for some it will go a long way towards transforming the image that Governors might have as shadowy figures who are slightly removed from the school ,when in fact that’s far ftom true. Active Governors are on the whole a good thing and better-placed to help the school community beyond school fairs and raffles.
Teachers, with governors can record, share and demonstrate the value of their monitoring activities whether they’re a learning walk, a monitoring visit, a remote read of a subject leader report. Even if there's already a 'pro-forma' that school uses it only takes a snap or two with a camera to add it and tag it into Blippit.
It’s likely that some schools put a bit of training in place first to help Governors get started but we have already provided a simple scaffold to help Governors encapsulate their activity which you'll see in the app tag category for Governors.
In time, schools will use this to encourage governors to reflect / monitor more strategically, discourage operational input, support a positive/collaborative culture and help provide evidence for the ‘How do you know…?’ question governors have to answer during inspections.
When you need to, the dashboard will give you a Governors perspective on visits allowing you to run a quick report on governor visit activity ready for the next sub-group, full governors or to circulate in the interim to recognise or stimulate governor visits. Imagine. As part of the big curriculum picture you'll also have the governor perspective too if you want it.
