Tagging in Blippit Boards (2026 app ver. 3+)

January 1, 2026

Tags help everyone make sense of the moments captured in Blippit Boards. They allow Subject Leaders to quickly see where and how moments on a subject or theme is surfacing across the school.

Tags are added by teachers when creating or editing a board - and they can be updated at any time, even after a board is published.

What tagging does

Tagging makes it easier to:

  • discover relevant boards
  • build reports in the app
  • view meaningful charts and patterns
  • track priorities across classes and year groups

The clearer your tagging, the stronger your insights will be.

Tag categories in the app

Blippit Boards includes simplified tag categories to keep things consistent. These may include:

  • curriculum subjects
  • year groups or phases
  • whole-school priorities
  • award or accreditation frameworks

You can add multiple tags to a single board.
Adding more relevant tags increases the quality of reports and charts.

How to apply tags when creating or editing a board

To add tags:

  1. Create a new board, or open an existing one
  2. Tap the three vertical dots next to the board title and select Edit (for an existing board)
  3. Swipe to the Tags section
  4. Tap + Manage Tags
  5. Browse the tag categories and tap to select the ones that apply
  6. Swipe left to see additional categories if needed

You can also hide tag categories you don’t need to use.

When you’ve added your title, description, media and tags, tap the tick icon in the top-right corner to publish or update your board.

When to apply or update tags

You can:

  • add tags while first creating the board
  • return later and add more
  • update tags as your understanding of the evidence grows

Tags are not fixed - they can evolve as your work develops.

How tags appear in charts and reports

Every tagged board contributes automatically to:

  • in-app charts
  • filtered lists
  • generated PDF or Word reports

You can tap chart segments to see all boards linked to that tag.

Updating a colleague’s tags (Subject Leaders / Admins)

Sometimes, a Subject Leader may notice:

  • a moment has been under-tagged, or
  • additional tags would better reflect the evidence

If you are an admin user, you can:

  1. open a colleague’s board
  2. tap the three dots next to the title
  3. select Edit
  4. add or adjust tags as appropriate

This helps ensure charts and reports are accurate and representative of the real picture across the school.

Good practice for tagging
  • be accurate rather than excessive
  • choose tags that describe what’s really happening
  • avoid leaving boards untagged
  • follow any school or Trust tagging guidance provided

Clear tagging benefits everyone - especially Subject Leaders and reviewers.
