Teachers rarely work in isolation. Neither should boards.

One of the most useful parts of building software for schools is that the best ideas rarely arrive as feature requests.

They usually arrive as someone trying to solve a real problem in the middle of a busy week.

Recently, a teacher emailed us with a question about using Blippit Boards to create an EYFS exemplification document that multiple staff members could contribute to together.

They wrote:

“I am wanting to use Blippit to be able to create an EYFS Exemplification document that staff in EYFS can add to. I am aware that if I create a board I can only edit it. If I go to a board that someone else has created only they can add to it/edit it. Is it possible for a board to be accessed by more than one member of staff?”

It was a simple question, but we felt that it reflected something a lot bigger.

Teachers rarely work in isolation. Good practice is usually collaborative. EYFS teams build observations together. Subject leaders collect examples across classes. Staff contribute evidence over time. And often, the person creating the board is not the only person doing the thinking or gathering the evidence.

Until now, boards in Blippit were intentionally individual. That kept things simple and clear. But this message highlighted a moment where simplicity was beginning to limit collaboration.

So in Blippit Boards v3.3.0, we have introduced Contributors.

What Contributors allows schools to do

Board owners can now invite other members of staff to contribute to a board.

This means multiple teachers or staff members can now:

while the original board owner still retains overall control of the board.

For schools, this opens up a range of practical uses:

Importantly, the feature was designed to stay lightweight and easy to manage. We were conscious that collaboration tools in schools can quickly become overcomplicated or create additional admin overhead.

The goal here was simply to make shared contribution feel natural.

Why we built it

One thing we try to pay attention to at Blippit is the difference between feature requests and friction.

Sometimes a request is really a sign that people are trying to work in ways the software does not yet support comfortably.

This was one of those moments.

The teacher who contacted us was not asking for a complex workflow system. They were trying to solve a very practical problem: “How do we build this together?”

That question made complete sense.

And in many ways, that is often how schools operate at their best. Not as isolated classrooms or isolated staff members, but as teams gradually building shared understanding over time.

Built from real school practice

We think the most useful school software grows from listening carefully to the reality of how teachers already work.

Not every improvement needs to be a major redesign or headline feature. Sometimes the most meaningful changes come from removing small points of friction that appear in everyday practice.

Contributors is one of those features.
